Join Ilka together with Bhola Banstola on this trip into the magic of Nepalese shamanism and the discovery of the healing traditions of the Himalayas. Bhola Banstola is an experienced guide and traditional Nepalese jhankri/shaman, he will be your guide on this journey. Ilka is a shamanic teacher and founder of the international school SHAMANKA and will be facilitating the adventure.
Nepal, the Heart of World Shamanism and Centre of Learning
"A journey to sacred places is the most common way that people travel in Nepal. They always go on pilgrimages to sacred places. The spiritual journeys are undertaken to visit the great human-made shrines and the natural Himalayan sacred places. These places are called Tirthas, which means "crossing place," where one can cross the river to the far shore or a mountain and cross over into another dimension of life. Cross over to the other realities or dimensions in one sense it's used for the pilgrimage."
These unique Nepal-Himalayan Experiential Shamanic Pilgrimages are offered to aspiring, curious and interested participants who cherish and understand Shamanism and Animism and are curious about the diverse and deeply rooted shamanic lineage practices that abound in Nepal. These trips are organised and coordinated by Bhola Banstola, a 27th-generation Dhami-Jhankri Shaman with decades of experience leading a wide range of Shamanism and cultural events in Nepal and other countries.
As the world continues to change, there is a growing need for healing and remembering our role here worldwide. We can only achieve this healing by bridging ancient traditions into our modern times. To restore harmony, Elders and other leaders of our practices must unite to preserve, share and transmit our ancestral wisdom. It's time to protect and spread our Shamanic teachings, knowledge, and culture in unity.
Nepal's renowned Dhami-Jhankri: Shamans, both men and women with diverse cultural backgrounds, will share their lineage rituals and traditions in an eco-friendly village nestled on the slopes of Nagarkot Hills above the medieval UNESCO heritage town of Bhaktapur. All the presentations and ceremonies will be both indoor and outdoor.
These exciting proposals are built on previous highly successful events. They have a significant advantage over the earlier events in that they can be a more intimate and powerful experience for everyone, focusing more specifically on the rich and varied Shamanism found across Nepal.
To give possibilities to participate to interested individuals and groups from different corners of the planet, each proposed itinerary suits everyone. In the past, many interested folks had to renounce these trips because there was trekking which they could not do, or there was no trekking as they wanted to be in nature.
Therefore, keeping in mind each aspirant's taste, physical health, need and possibility, the following proposals have come into being. I hope this suits each of you.
The Proposed Programme:
Each day of these experiential pilgrimages will offer new revelations and opportunities to explore the richness of Nepali culture and practice, presented in morning, afternoon and night sessions with lunch and dinner breaks. All participants are encouraged to participate in ceremonies and the group cleansing and healing processes within the stipulated time and space.
For an enhanced experience, all the presentations, discussions and ceremonies in Nepali or any regional language will be translated into English and vice versa (interpreters simultaneously translate rituals and sacred songs as much as possible). As the Nepali shamans and elders have their rhythms and ways of working and sharing, there will be time to ask questions and get clarity.
Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, the program starts with a reception, escorted to a beautiful property in Thamel at the Apsara Boutique Hotel (www.apsaraboutiquehotel.com) or similar accommodation, where there will be a welcome dinner.
The participants will spend the first three days and nights in Kathmandu to prepare and rest after a long journey with time differences and jet lag at www.apsaraboputiquehotel.com. Then the group will be transferred for a four days retreat with the Dhami-Jhankri-Shamans in a beautiful homestay settings village of Nagarkot immersed in nature. During these retreat days, there will be three sessions of work with the shamans per day. These days, the local shamans perform purificatory rituals and healing sessions and share their evolutionary experiential path on how they became shamans and what they do.
From Nagarkot, the group embarks on hiking to the sacred power places in the mountains (probable visits to the villages of different shamanic tradition carriers) up to 3000 meters in height.
On returning to Kathmandu, the participants will be accompanied to the sacred power places within the Valley of Kathmandu (Kathmandu/Bhaktapur/Patan), during which, if possible, rituals will be performed in the power places.
